Maybe if Santa brings single gentlemen a red sweater, their love
lives might improve. A study conducted by the University of Rochester
in New York state found that women prefer men in red shirts, when
compared to the same photos of the gentlemen in green shirts.
It was felt that red signified alpha-male status, improving their
desirability. They were judged to be of higher social status and
presumably therefore more appealing. Women in the U.S., Germany,
China and England all preferred the gentlemen who wore something red
or were photographed against a red background.
The women did not seem to be aware that the color was affecting
their judgments.
(quote) The cherry color's charm ultimately lies in its ability to
make men appear more powerful, says lead author Andrew Elliot,
professor of psychology at the University of Rochester. "We
found that women view men in red as higher in status, more likely to
make money and more likely to climb the social ladder. And it's this
high-status judgment that leads to the attraction," Elliot says.
Well! And here I thought red just made you look more extroverted.
Has anyone tried this out? Has anyone deliberately worn a red
garment on a date to goose their attractiveness rating??
